Measurement & Verification


Measurement and Verification (M&V) is an established, systematic process for determining and assessing the functional and energy saving performance of a building's energy-using systems. This process involves collecting and analyzing energy data in order to demonstrate and validate claimed savings through the use of standard M&V protocols.

The Measurement & Verification process includes establishing the potential of a project's efficiency measures to save energy and then verifies that the expected results associated with these upgrades are achieved. Viridian can evaluate with specificity where and how energy is used and provide information that reassures our customers get the results they expect from investing in energy efficiency.

Viridian's Measurement and Verification process utilizes the industry standard protocol of the IPMVP (International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol). Our M&V process also meets all the requirements of USGBC LEED Energy and Atmosphere Credit 5.

Measurement and Verification Basic Process:

  • Determine IPMVP Option and Set Goals
  • Gather Baseline Energy Data and Record
  • Design Energy Saving Program
  • Prepare Measurment and Verification Plan
  • Issue Design Specifications for M&V Plan
  • Commission M&V Equipment
  • Gather energy use data as defined in the M&V Plan
  • Compute and Report Savings
